The Sunday School is an integral part of the parish and addresses the spiritual training and development needs of parish children, from KG to Class 11. This includes faith formation and preparation for the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
As the name suggests, the Sunday School functions on most Sundays, except during vacation time. The School includes a participative Children’s Mass at 8:30am, at which the celebrant explains the Gospel in creative and interesting ways. The interaction with the participating children ensures that they absorb and carry home the Gospel message of the day.
The Children’s Mass is followed by Sunday School classes which last an hour. A dedicated band of 28 catechists guide the spiritual formation of almost 180 students of different age groups, seeking to foster a love of Christ. The catechism taught uses the recommended ‘Word Quest’ series of books.
The catechists themselves receive ongoing refresher training in faith formation through recollections held at the Bandra Deanery level. They also meet every Sunday after class to pray for the children and their families, besides meeting monthly to review and plan ahead.
The Sunday School fosters growth in spiritual life by encouraging its students to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on a regular basis. The school thanks Frs. Titus and Sunil for this Reconciliation Ministry. The catechists also thank Fr. John, Spiritual Director, for his overall encouragement and support of the Sunday School Ministry.
