Ushers

The Ushers at St. Theresa’s play a key role at weekend and Feast Day masses, both inside the church and on the school grounds. Ushers help with the layout of seating arrangements at outdoor events, escort the opening and closing processions at Eucharistic celebrations, guide parishioners to vacant seats, assist with collections, and direct Communion lines.

Our ushers play a special role during the 13-hour Adoration leading up to the Feast of Christ the King in November, when they assist with security, help maintain order and direct traffic as parishioners walk in public procession through neighbourhood streets.

Our ushers also assist at other venues during the year such as at the Khar and Pali Village celebrations of the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes in Feb. and the Feast of St. Roque in May.
The origins of the usher team date back to the early days of the parish, when Fr. Proksch first drafted a few male parishioners with St. Andrew’s experience to assist with various tasks. The team has evolved and grown since then and now includes women and youth. Most recently, 20 Confirmation students assisted with ushering during Holy Week services.

The team meets to plan only for special events such as Holy Week or Christmas services held outdoors. The team’s activities are coordinated by Ignatius Sutari (tel. 2604-4733 or 98190-85629) and Richard D’Silva (98190-97450), with Fr. Bernard Rodrigues as Spiritual Director.
All parishioners interested in volunteering for ushering duties are welcome.
